HOSTAGE CRISIS

Both Hezbollah and Israeli are cooperating with the mediation of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in arranging an exchange of the three Israeli soldiers captured by the Lebanese Shi�ite militia on October 7 for Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Iran has demanded that Israel also release four Iranian citizens � three diplomats and a journalist � whom it claims Israel kidnapped in Lebanon in 1982. Israel denies holding any Iranians and is demanding from Iran information on Ron Arad, the navigator whose plane went down over Lebanon 14 years ago. Negotiations are expected to be long and complex.
