Founded in 1999, it won six seats in 1999, but was effectively dissolved in March 2001, though MK David Magen will still run under the party name on January 28. Yitzhak Mordechai: former general, joined the Likud in 1995 after being passed over for chief of staff�s job, and was named defense minister in the 1996 Netanyahu government. Joined the Center Party in 1999 and was selected (on the basis of perceived popularity) over Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, Dan Meridor and Roni Milo for the leadership; ran for prime minister in 1999, but dropped out on election eve amid falling support. Suspended himself from the Knesset in May 2000, amid allegations of sexual harassment; convicted in March 2001 and given 18-month suspended jail term. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak: Ex-chief of staff, co-founded the Center Party. Tourism minister under Barak; resigned from the cabinet and the Knesset when Sharon was elected prime minister in February 2001; now in business, including defense exports. Dan Meridor: Ex-Begin cabinet secretary and Likud minister, co-founded the Center Party. Headed the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee under Barak, and minister for strategic planning under Sharon. Rejoined the Likud on Nov. 25 but did not compete for Knesset place; heads Sharon�s "political planning" team. Roni Milo: Former Likud minister and Tel Aviv mayor, joined the Center Party in 1999, briefly served as minister for regional cooperation under Barak, rejoined the Likud in November and was placed 47th on the party�s Knesset slate. Uri Savir: Former director general of the Foreign Ministry and Oslo Accords architect, joined the Center Party in 1999; resigned from the Knesset in March 2000; now president of a non-profit group promoting inter-city relations. Dalia Rabin-Pelossof: Joined the Center Party in 1999, bolted to Labor in April 2001. Deputy defense minister in the Sharon government; resigned from the Knesset in mid-November and took over as head of the Rabin Center, an educational institution commemorating her father, the assassinated prime minister. Nehamah Ronen: Former director general of the Environment Ministry, became Center Party MK in March 2001, replacing Savir. Bolted to the Likud in November and placed an unrealistic 88th on the Knesset slate. Sparked the Likud corruption investigation after complaining of being approached by Central Committee members seeking payoffs. David Magen: Ex-Likud minister, joined the Center Party in 1999; sworn in as MK in March 2001, replacing Lipkin-Shahak. Yehiel Lasri: Replaced Mordechai as MK; joined Likud in Nov. January 27, 2003
